A Boring Overview of Our Trip

I seem to have obtained a new pet peeve, thanks to my husband. He travels quite a bit and always finds it amusing and annoying that people seem to like to pee while on an airplane. He’s always going on about this and I usually pay no attention.

Until now.

With everything going on, in getting ready for our Thanksgiving holiday, I missed the chance to ‘pick’ our seats on the 2hr flight to Houston. To me, no big deal. If we have a seat, I don’t really care too much, on short flights. Normally, J and I snatch up the bulkhead or exit row seats but this time, I failed.

We were in the last row on the plane, next to the toilets. Like I mentioned above, J rants on about how people always seem to wait until they are on a plane to use the bathroom. He cannot understand why people don’t go beforehand. Granted, public bathrooms are never the greatest place to shit, but I find them a bit better than the tiny, smelly plane bathrooms.

So, here we sit in the last row and as soon as the seatbelt sign turns off, a massive queue forms up for the toilets. What?! We’ve been in the air 15 mins and already 10 people need to pee? Folks, they haven’t even served the drinks yet and you need to go? Pretty much the entire flight, there was a queue for the toilets.

J, I now see what you mean. I can understand on a long haul flight, using the facilities, but for a flight that was only 1hr and 40mins? Can’t you people hold it? Now, thanks to J, I have gained another pet peeve to add to my already long list.

The flight down was uneventful and the ‘shuttle guy’ I found on the internet was right on time and incredibly helpful. For someone like me, who needs ALL the details, instructions etc, he obliged the requested information without me needing to ask. Overall, had an uneventful night in Galveston, TX. Oh, the ‘How many Saltine crackers can you eat before you need water’ contest we had at the Waffle House, was quite amusing.

On Sunday, we arrived at the cruise ship terminal early and due to M-i-L’s knee replacement (this categorized her as handicapped) we got right through to the check-in. This time, it only took 2 ½ hrs to board, compared to the other three times, where it took 3-4hrs.

We had a lovely stateroom with an ‘ocean view balcony’. Never again, will we have a stateroom with no windows – horrible. As I may have mentioned before, this was J’s choice for a holiday. He (and I do too) likes sun, beaches and cruises, so this is really his main trip, luckily, I get to go too! :P

Unluckily for me, the weather was crappy. Monday and Tuesday were the ‘Fun Days at Sea’. It was cloudy and cold. I think I managed about 40 mins of sun on Monday. Not nearly enough, as I need the sun to keep going.

I immediately find a huge problem, that I know will plague me throughout the trip.

The steps up to the ‘Adults Only’ deck are right off the kid’s area. Fabulous, so now the teenage boys will be coming up to sneak a peek at the naked women. Speaking of which, one of the women at our dining table, asked how a girl from Holland, Mi (a known conservative town) doesn’t mind baring it all. I replied that I just don’t care. And really that’s the truth. Choices is what makes this country (even if in the Caribbean) a great place to live. We have a choice on whether or not to sunbath in the semi-buff or not.

Tuesday night was not setting Wednesday up to be a good day. A rocking ship + booze do not make for a good Bex. A bit of Dramamine later, I was doing better.

We spent Wednesday in a cold (79 degrees) cloudy day in Jamaica. We hopped on a bus and headed out to the ‘Original Canopy Tour’. We hooked up to some zip lines and zipped through the rainforest 100+ feet high. One of the lines was over 1000 ft in length and 250ft high. Ya man, totally fun time. Our Jamaican guides were awesome, so funny and kept the day entertaining, despite the cruddy weather.

To be continued … hopefully, with some photos.
