Changing the Way I See Things

Changing the Way I See Things

When I was young, my Dad had a dark room. He would develop his own photographs and have photo sessions with my Mom and me. We’d get dressed up and let him take photos. My Dad has always been good at photography and I’ve always been jealous of that.

Over the years, I’ve been increasingly frustrated with the photos I take. I’d like to change this. I go to all these wonderful, amazing places in the world and never come back with the photos I want. I cannot seem to capture what I see. I blame several things, the ‘point and click’ cameras I have, my lack of knowledge and understanding, along with just not knowing the correct ‘procedure’ for photography.

With our trip to Southeast Asia coming up, I want to come home with photos I will be proud of. I want to capture it all.

I’ve been talking with my Dad quite a bit about this, asking for his help, teaching and just guidance. He said that back in 1973, he took a weekend Nikon course, in New Orleans. He said that it changed the way he did photography and still remembers this course well.

So I signed up … a couple hundred dollars later ... In the hopes, that I can begin to learn the art of photography. I also hope that some of my Dads finesse in photography has been passed onto me. I’ve always wanted to be that person who can take beautiful pictures. I don’t want to do it to make money, to publicly display them or the lot. I just want them for my viewing pleasure, to share with family and friends. To look back at them and really be proud of what I captured.

Next month, I will attend the Nikon School of Photography: Introduction to Digital SLR Photography and Nikon School Next Steps in Digital Photography: Streamlined Workflow Techniques. I am really excited about it and luckily signed up in time for the courses, as the Nikon School only comes to Denver once a year.
